Importers are now faced with new challenges for cargo arriving at the Ports of LA and Long Beach, CA. Increased import demand has resulted in extreme terminal congestion and on-going chassis shortage at these US West Coast ports. These delays are causing many importers to experience extensive delays receiving their containers, securing chassis, making appointments, and finding truckers to haul those containers to their facilities.
According to the Journal of Commerce, the surge is creating “monumental strains on a system that has historically been unable to marshal significant surge capacity.” With this being said, importers are sure to see additional trucking fees, congestion charges and the likes in the coming days, weeks and months.
