If you are a package handler, driver, or driver-helper, UPS may have a job for you this holiday season! UPS has just announced that it is hiring between 90,000 – 95,000 part-time and full-time seasonal workers to help with the expected increase in deliveries from November to January. This is a lesson learned from 2013 when millions of shipments missed their delivery date and were received after the holidays, impacting profits and disappointing many gift givers, no doubt.

An increase in last-minute online shipments resulted in increased deliveries last holiday season, and is driving the increase expected for 2015 as well. To ensure UPS is adequately prepared, it is also implementing other improvements such as an updated website, increased vehicles and use of aircraft, and an increase in the automation of operations. Knowing better what to expect this year in addition to improved communication with retailers should help improve service and delight gift givers.

How do you think UPS is handling the expected increase in shipments – is it going to be ready this year?
