The American Trucking Associations has reported truck tonnage figures for June, 2016. While there was an increase in the tonnage America’s truckers handled in June, a seasonally adjusted increase of 2.1% over the June 2015 figures, the results are very disappointing when compared to May’s year over year figure which showed an increase of 5.9%.
For months now, we have been highlighting key barometers that appear to indicate that the freight industry is experiencing a slow-down in activity which could be a pre-curser to a slowing economy. These are sentiments also expressed by Bob Costello, ATA’s chief economist who stated “looking ahead, I expect the freight environment will remain choppy.”
